Learning Resource Unit supports Allegan County Teacher Learning PDF Print E-mail
A total of 2,034 teachers were enrolled in AAESA Learning Resource Unit Professional Development Training Programs for the 2006-07 School Year. These teachers from all 8 districts and two public academies were involved in 270 professional development training sessions in and out of Allegan County coordinated by the AAESA.

Professional Development and LRU support to local districts included:

  • A spring online professional development needs assessment that  allows the LRU to plan for professional development needs of our constituent districts and AAESA programs for the next 2-3 years based on data from the survey.
  • The online survey tool Zoomerang allows the LRU to provide each school and district with their own analysis of professional learning needs. We can plan for workshops and professional learning communities here at the Allegan AESA county wide but also allow for in district training that focuses on local needs.
  • The MOODLE online learning tool used by 14 groups within the Learning Resource Unit allows Curriculum Directors or Elementary Principals, for example, to share information and talk to each other when they are not face to face. We have hundreds of teachers and administrators that are very familiar with the tool and are using it as a resource.
  • The Learning Resource Unit focuses its efforts on helping districts, schools and AAESA programs increase student achievement by working to develop and implement high quality professional development, curriculum alignment activities and assist with assessment work.

During the 2006-07 school year, all public schools within Allegan AESA worked on a school wide reading model which focuses on early intervention and assessments, and we assessed 4, 213 K-3 students on early indicators of reading progress.
