Of Interest to Adult Learners

Lake Michigan College Admissions Specialist Jacquie Johnson will be holding office hours at the Tech Center to assist adults interested in going to college.

Jacquie will be making site visits to the Allegan Tech Center on Mondays beginning July 26th and will be here from 1:00 – 4:00 pm. She will be available to answer college related questions, help with financial aid and college applications, etc.

Lake Michigan College Coming this fall to ACATEC

AAESA/Lake Michigan College Partnership: Cutting the Cost and Increasing Accessibility of College

Expanded for Fall 2010, the AAESA/LMC partnership will deliver a variety of Lake Michigan College classes and programs designed to serve both high school & adult students with the goal of making college more affordable and accessible to residents of Allegan County.

Early College – Making more of High School

Open to high school juniors and seniors, LMC’s Early College programming allows students to earn true college credit at a reduced cost while they finish high school. LMC’s Direct Credit program continues to operate at Hopkins, Plainwell and Wayland High Schools. Students at these schools enroll in variety of college courses including Calculus, Public Speaking, Literature, and Economics. Through the Dual Enrollment program, Fennville High hosts LMC instructor Susanna Lankheet who teaches the first year of college level composition. LMC Early College

New for the 2010/2011 school year, the Allegan County Technical & Education Center will be the home of Lake Michigan College’s Early College Academy; a pilot program designed to jumpstart the college careers of a group of the area’s college-ready students. Lake Michigan College instructors will be coming to the Tech Center each morning Monday –Friday to provide instruction in college math, English, and social science, and also to help prepare the students for long term success in college and beyond.

Lake Michigan College is a two-year, comprehensive community college located in the southwest corner of Michigan. The college is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. LMC offers more than 100 associate degree and certificate programs.

What is Early College?

Lake Michigan College’s Early College programs provide opportunities for high school students to earn college credit and build an official transcript while they are still in high school. The Early College program includes direct credit courses, dual enrollment and articulated credit.

What is the Difference between Direct Credit & Dual Enrollment?

Direct Credit courses are Lake Michigan College courses that are taught at local high schools by high school teachers whose credentials have earned them the right to become Adjunct Instructors for LMC. LMC’s strict adherence to quality standards guarantees that these instructors are fully capable of teaching at the college level.
